Overview
Founded in 1991, ITEQ - Integrated Technologies, Inc. is a professional
services firm specializing in complex advanced technology business
solutions. ITEQ skillfully applies various forms of information
and communication technologies in support of mission critical requirements.
ITEQ is dedicated to delivering innovative and cost-effective solutions
and products at competitive prices. ITEQ is a Maryland corporation
headquartered in Silver Spring, MD. It is a small and disadvantaged,

Challenge
ITEQ was seeking to engage a company with in-depth knowledge and
expertise in providing complete web based solutions for creating
a web based collaboration system. Certification and Accreditation
Project and User Management System (CAPMUS) will be a product that
ITEQ intends to customize and implement at several government agencies.
This system is expected to meet the following objectives: |
Management of Users and User Groups.
Management
of Projects and Tasks and SubTasks.
Artifacts
and Documents Management.
Administration
Options.
Reports
and Queries.
Customization
Aids. |
Provide the
infrastructure for the system to meet all security needs outlined
for systems in the Security Self-Assessment Guide for Information
Technology Systems, published by National Institute of Standards
and Technology, Technology Administration, US Department of Commerce.

Solution
PositiveEdge proposed and delivered a three-phase approach to the
design and development of the Web based collaboration system.
Phase 1: Analysis & Design
The first phase of the Project created the foundation for CAPMUS.
In this phase, PositiveEdge engineers worked closely with ITEQ designated
personnel to conduct workgroup sessions and jointly define the requirements
for the system, the administration features and the customization
options. We have successfully implemented this approach with both
Government and Commercial agencies.
Phase 2: Development and Testing
Based on the design generated during Phase 1, PositiveEdge proceeded
with development of the system. PositiveEdge developed test cases
to ensure the delivered product functions well and meets all performance
criteria. After the development of the application was completed,
testing was performed to ensure the quality of the system, ease
of use and adherence to requirements.
Phase 3: Customization and Implementation
PositiveEdge’s Integration team demonstrated the customization
features and installed and implemented the system in ITEQ environment.
Customization and Implementation details were also be supplied to
the ITEQ Project Team in the form of a Microsoft Word document. |

Technologies
PositiveEdge Strategies decided that in order to build a scalable,
modular and reliable system to support the proposed solution, a
J2EE-based solution was the best choice. ITEQ and PositiveEdge developed
an architectural-based solution, which is capable of supporting
change, along with the ability to be implemented modularly to maximize
cost efficiency. The system was created by utilizing a best-of-breed
solution with a myriad of solution components (document management,
application servers, mail and fax servers, encryption engines, XML
parsers) all based on J2EE standards. The J2EE architecture was
built with three tiers: Database (SQL Server), Application Layer
(JBoss and Java apps); and Web Layer (IIS Web server). In addition
to providing a leading-edge solution.
Benefits
CAPMUS is both dynamic and flexible. Users can create a unique
environment to meet specific needs or requirements. The environment
uses a room-based metaphor which provides a short learning curve
and allows new users to communicate and share their ideas immediately. |
